The deep and superficial veins of the lower limb, including the great and small saphenous veins.

The great saphenous vein begins on the medial side of the dorsum of the foot, ascends along the medial leg and thigh and drains into the femoral vein at the saphenous opening. The small saphenous vein runs along the back of the leg and joins the popliteal vein; valves in the veins prevent the backflow of blood.
